OCTAVIO CHAVEZ’S 1949 FORD COUPE

The timingtower.com NSRA Pick for 2023 is Octavio Chavez’s 1949 Ford Coupe.

This 1949 Ford Coupe is one of a kind.  It was built by Dick Jackson (aka Peep).  Jackson worked for George Barris in the 1950’s and later opened his own shop in Compton.  He later later moved to Tehachapi, CA opened a shop, and started building cars. Jackson built this ’52 Shoebox as his own car.

Octavio bought the car from Jackson’s family about a year ago.  

The car has many custom touches including frenched tailights, 1955 Chev headlights, a ’55 Desoto grille, a ’50 Merc grille opening, molded lakes pipes, Appleton spot lights and a ’52 Chev license plate surround.  The  ‘sinful cinnamon’ paint is highlighted stylized flames, the door handles have been removed and its been nosed and decked.

The interior also has several unique features such as hand-made knobs, and a car phone.

 

The engine is the original 8 cylinder flathead, which only has 60,000 miles on it, and sports dual Holley 94 carburetors.

 

 

This Ford Coupe is one of the most distinctive customs around and we’re glad we had the opportunity to see it.
