FORTY FORD DAY, June 24, 2018, LaPalma Park Anaheim, CA

The 42nd Forty Ford Day was held in LaPalma Park, Anaheim, CA on June 24, 2018.  This year 242 cars filled the south end of LaPalma Park and they were a diverse bunch.  There were more non-forty Fords than forty Fords in the Park.  However, after 42 years the show retains its core purpose of celebrating one of Henry’s best looking cars. With good grass and plenty of shade, this is a great spot for a car show.  This year Mother Nature did her part and gave us an overcast morning with plenty of sun and blue sky in the afternoon.

There were so many outstanding cars in the Park, it was hard to see them all before the day ended.  The ’49 Ford Custom Coupe below is owned and was built by Bill Burton of Burton Classics.  The reflection of the trees on the black paint shows just how straight this car is.

Below are a few more cars.

As in past years, the club sponsoring the show, Forties Limited of Orange County, had a bake sale (yum! donuts) and a great bar-b-que lunch with hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and chips, with water and soda available.  The club also held opportunity drawings with numbers drawn throughout the day.   When you purchase a ticket you put half of the ticket into a bucket next to the prize you want to win.  The odds of winning depended on the number of tickets in the bucket.   A crowd gathered when winning numbers were posted.

Many folks took home a lot of nice prizes.

In addition to the opportunity drawings a 50/50 raffle was held.  The lucky winner took home almost $500 with the other half of the money going to charity.  This year Dillon drew the winning ticket in the 50/50 raffle as well as selected a trophy winner.  The lucky 50/50 winner is shown below.

Thumper, the DJ, kept the music playing until about 1:30 p.m. when the awards ceremony got underway. Twenty trophies were given away: 8 to forty Ford categories including 1/2 ton trucks and commercial trucks, survivor and under construction; 6 – to non-forty Ford classes including survivor and under construction; 6 – other classes including ladies choice, kids pick (Dillon did the picking this year), President’s choice, best of the 50′ & 60’s and Best of Show.  All of the trophies are unique and are one-of-a-kind since they are all made by members of Forties Limited.

This is Dillon showing off the trophy he gave out to the Lincoln he picked.

In case you were wondering how much fun it is to win a trophy at Forty Ford Day take a look at this photo of Wilbur Randell in his 1945 Reo Speedwagon as he drove away after receiving a trophy – that smile says it all.

Forty Ford Day is one of the better ways to spend a day.  This show is always held the Sunday after Father’s Day – put it on your calendar for 2019.
